About Ron and Cynthia

Ron and Cynthia came from humble beginnings on the south side of Chicago. Neither ever took for granted the blessings they received in life due to opportunities that brought them together in college and the subsequent 66 year partnership they shared. Ron and Cynthia engaged in volunteering and charitable giving their entire marriage, both in donations and in action. Ron was on the Advisory Board of the Salvation Army Chicago Metropolitan Division and once asked why no one rang bells at the Wilmette train station. When he learned there were no volunteers, Ron immediately stepped forward, and every morning in December for many years, commuters found either him or Cynthia ringing a bell at a kettle in front of a sign charting how much had been raised toward an anonymous matching goal. They raised tens of thousands of dollars this way, no one ever knowing they were also the anonymous donors. That's the kind of people they were. Humble and generous.

Ron's support of The Salvation Army didn't stop with the Board or at the kettle. Shortly before he died, he was excited to learn of a Salvation Army program which matches unsheltered Chicago residents with social workers, and over the course of several years, will help guide these families and individuals toward housing, food and medical assistance, and educational and job opportunities. Your gift to The Salvation Army in support of these Chicagoland programs will help continue Ron and Cynthia's meaningful legacy in the world.
